Risk is as much about prep as it is response

In the world of physical risk, AI is becoming increasingly useful in many areas helping support your efforts in intel and response. However, if your only interest in AI is to expand or filter your situational awareness, let's think further outside of the box ... or indeed cage! Risk sits throughout your business, in as much as what you take on as what hinders you. We all talk about resilience and continuity, but that is as much about being prepared and ready as it is in how you respond when incidents hit. So let's consider that.

Are you trying to turn everyone into prompt engineers in the middle of a crisis?

When incidents hit, you need to know the full situation, quickly and accurately. What's happening? Who's impacted? Are they aware? How my business is being affected? What inherent risks this relates to and from? Potential residual risks etc. Thing is, your technology should already provide that all for you as part of the product ... do you really need AI chat to answer that for you? Right now, the best tech will use AI as a supporting tool. Fact is ... you don't need AI to build situational awareness, your risk tech should know more about connected risks and impact without having to get overly creative. Great user experiences exist when the tech designers really understand who they are building their products for ... not leave it up to the users to work it out for themselves in a chat engine. And, I include the employees in that statement ... do they really want to be working out what chat prompts to use when their own safety is at stake?

Here is a quick tip on what to look for in any risk related solution. Look to platforms that guide you through a complete risk journey. Ones that help you identify, build, engage and test any potential risks. Ones that help you learn, building trust and confidence within your workforce. Ones that can provide feedback on how effective your policy/programs are or likely to be. Ones that allow you to rerun incidents again in simulations based off a current or imaginary snapshot of your business today, tomorrow, next week, next year. Ones that follow the world to look for potential threats, check them against your business and workforce and see what might happen if they occurred? Is your tech built to grow with your business or leaving it to AI to fill out all the gaps?
